Globe to Thatcher AZ and a rest day

On Monday we rode 75.99 miles according to Strava which puts us at 661 for the trip.  The scenery along the ride was beautiful and we had stops for food and water about every 20 miles.  As opposed to other areas that are food desert, we had lots of actual desert, but several stores including a Family Dollar had fruit.  The weather half cooperated with the sun behind clouds or high haze most of the way.  The only challenge was a light headwind when we started that grew in strength every hour.  We still made it to our hotel prior to check-in.

We moved the bikes into the room and did the shower/laundry (stomp cycling clothes in shower and hang to dry).  Jim was out at the pool and I was searching for a restaurant when the storm came through, it was good to be off the bike.  We waited in the room an hour and went to JD’s Bar and Grill, the beer was good and food fair.  We then hit the local Safeway for a few supplies and walked back to our hotel and called it a night (other then I was still hungry- 75 miles requires more than 3 meals).

On our rest day we had a good breakfast at the hotel, planned the next few days, walked around Stafford (just next to Thatcher) and found the bike shop closed for the week☹️.  I did find a good coffee.  Downtown was nice with a good number of shops.  About 12:30pm we met up with Ron and Mike who stayed 10 miles back (65 miles ride + 10 today to meet up with us).  They completed their last few miles in the dark - something I will get up early to avoid ( more like HELL NO).

We had a good lunch at Jerry’s diner and then a bit more shopping for tomorrow’s ride.  We are still figuring dinner plans.  Tomorrow’s ride is about 40 miles with not much climbing, we should get to Ducan early - still deciding on motels or RV parks.

We met Mike at the coffee shop - note the LeMond bike like my road bike.  He told us about rides and roads in the area.
