Superior to Globe - a long day with few miles

In Superior we stayed at the Copper Mountain motel, a bit old and well used but clean and comfortable with a friendly manager Sam (pictured below with Jim and I).  We departed at 8am and rode to the trailhead and then pushed the bikes on the trail for the first 3 miles.  This took us up to Highway 60 avoiding some blind curves and a tunnel without a shoulder.  Once up to the Highway we pushed the bikes past a few more curves until we had a shoulder to bike on.  With construction for much of the ride this was not fun.  Thankfully most drivers gave us space.  Along the way we also climbed 3400 feet.  This was mentally the toughest 28 miles I have ridden.  Did I mention high cross winds trying to blow us off cliffs or into traffic?

On the plus side we arrived safely at our hotel and the room is large and comfortable.  Eating and resting for a 6:30am start for a 75 mile ride tomorrow.

Our end of the day accumulated miles

The most misleading sign ever- 12 miles of up and down at 6% grade!😤
